SEOUL, South Korea (Reuters) — North Korea called on Monday for direct talks with its longtime adversary, the United States, and said it was ready to return to stalled six-country nuclear disarmament negotiations.
“The conclusion we have reached is that the direct parties, which are the North and the United States, must first sit down and find a rational solution,” [*] [they have become strangely obsessive about bilateral talks with US] [will that give him advantage against his potential oppenents in DPRK?] [*] a Foreign Ministry spokesman said in comments reported by the official KCNA news agency.
The comments were the strongest yet on North Korea’s desire for resuming dialogue, first broached last month by Kim Jong-il, the North’s leader.
